About Carla

My journey into this work began with a Bachelor of Psychology, something I pursued after years of being told I was a good listener and someone people felt safe opening up to. I was always curious about why we think the way we do, why we react the way we do, and how our early experiences shape the adults we become.
Working as a family therapist was an incredible privilege. I sat with individuals and families in some of their most vulnerable moments, and I learned deeply from those experiences. But over time, I found myself wanting to offer more than reflection. I wanted to help people build practical skills — tools they could actually use — and see real, measurable shifts in their lives.
That desire led me to complete a Master’s in Social Work. I moved into more task-based roles, including work within child protection and community agencies. It was meaningful, challenging work — and it changed me.
What I began to notice was that by the time people entered the system, they were often already in crisis. We were doing our best to support those who had fallen, to stabilise and rebuild. But I kept coming back to the same question:
What if we focused more energy at the top of the cliff?
What if we equipped people earlier — with emotional literacy, regulation skills, communication tools, and self-awareness — before things reached breaking point?
That question became the foundation of Generational Gains. I don’t believe people are broken. I believe many of us were never taught the skills we needed. Our parents did the best they could with what they knew, and often they were navigating their own unhealed experiences. These patterns are rarely intentional — but they are powerful.
Generational Gains was created to offer the education many of us missed. Practical, structured tools to help individuals understand their emotions, recognise their triggers, clarify their values, and respond with intention rather than reaction.
My hope is simple: that fewer people reach crisis point because they were given the skills earlier. And on a personal note — I am still learning too. I am a parent, a professional, and a human navigating growth in real time. I believe this work isn’t about perfection. It’s about awareness, responsibility, and choosing to do a little better than we were shown.
